A guy using words like "squib" and "a-weary" bitching about narrative on wine labels, narrative he seems to find contrived, if not precious? It is to laugh! Oh, the projection, it hurts my head. Which is not, I concede, bigger than yours. heh

Oh, and by the way, per this:

>Which came first, the wine or the marketing campaign?<

Gosh, I'm not sure. Let me consult one of the myriad WINE MARKETING ADS insulting my senses here, and I'll get back to you.

Not really.

"Just make the wine, Jack, and make it well and sell it at a decent price."

Fredric, surely you don't believe Quality and/or Value are the only paths to success? While Tempra Tantrum may miss the mark on both counts, it will surely find an audience. Just as Yellow Tail, Smoking Loon and the dozens of copy-cat wines have. Somebody is laughing all the way to the bank...

You stole the words out of my head. Give them back! I also received this package and thought something similar. Unfortunately, Jury Duty got in the way of my writing.

When I looked at the packaging I almost wanted to put on sunglasses or cover it in black ink to make the orange go away.

Strappo, it was Canute who tried to stop the tides -- they paid him no mind -- but Alfred was pretty Great.

Fredric,

For a moment I thought you'd taken up Dadaist sculpture as a hobby.

As to the last line of your post, I've got a black coffee mug emblazoned with the big white letters "STFU". It hasn't been appropriate for any office I've ever worked in, but it sits on my desk in stern admonition.

Fredric,

To answer your question about the consumer, just look at what sells in that category, and how much of it moves!

One of your curmudgeonyest (I just coined it). And right on the money with this passion bullshit.

I can't wait till you have a go at sacred words like "sustainable" and "biodynamic" (well you sort of did a while ago) and, oh, my very favourite of 2009: "natural wine."

You, FK, have the power to halt the tides of wine fundamentalism! Better than King Alfred, I betcha.

This wine is now being offered by the local Hannaford grocery. It's a good chain and at least they're offering it for $7.99 a bottle with some possibly tongue in cheek promotion ("great with: Pork chops with balsamic onions, grilled pepper steak, spicy sausage pizza and tapas")which implies that iw will cut the grease and soothe a burnt tongue. For the more discerning buyer there's a proper wine and liquor store next door.
