I’m really late to this party, but in case anybody’s still checking these comments, I’d add the famous (infamous?) Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars’ SLV. I’m also fond of the cab from Regusci (another SL winery), which has a pleasant Old World quality about it. And I’ll throw in a “hear, hear!” for Beaulieu.

Terry,

Beaulieu was one of the important factors that got me into the wine business.

I used to produce audio visual programs. When I worked on the Beaulieu visitor’s center multi-projector slide and film show, I spent a lot of time talking with the then BV President Leigh Knowles.

One day, over a bottle of Riesling (at 10 A.M.) his passion persuaded me to chuck everything and start a small winery.

Knowles didn’t say much about how I’d probably go broke in the process…;)

Ah, for the good ole days of Beaulieu, Beringer, Martini, Sebastiani, Inglenook, Christian Bros, et al. Those are the Cabernet Sauvignons that Broadbent was talking about, before the big bombs took over and the good guys went corporate.

A nice midrash on Asimov’s article.

I loved the old, elegant style of Cali Cabs and am glad to see that harmonious approach make a comeback. Too bad I can’t afford them. And of course I don’t get review samples.
