Any bar should have little bags of beer nuts or pretzels available for a reasonable price. Let's all ask if this happens to us... and promise to "spread the word about the ripoff" if the management balks at the idea. We were seated at the bar (waiting for our table) which had bowls of house cured olives and assorted roasted nuts. I spend more time in bars in Cleveland than I do in Memphis, but I've noticed a much better selection of bar food up there. Pickled eggs and smoked meats in the dives, and the higher end places tend to have very reasonable bar menus with selections that come out quickly--half dozen oysters for $6, shots of chowder, truffled frites, a couple of pierogies, etc. I've even been to one place up there where I got an amuse bouche or two while enjoying my after-work martini and a copy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. I thought it was only our local (solitary) bar that had made this decision. Back in the day you got a crisp bowl of tortilla chips or a little stash of spicy nut and pretzel mix. You had your G & T, you had another perhaps, and life was good. Now--nada. What is this world coming to? God, this pisses me off.
