Ah well, I'm easily more tempted by a lean style of Pinot Noir, with a hint of tufted velvet mouth feel and strawberry-like tight fruit. But I've been living in the Finger Lakes for 25 years; what do you expect of me???

yeah, I know, and I'm a big fan of elegance myself, but I think these wines strike a balance, a rather risky balance, perhaps, between burgundian elegance and california power. and beside, haven't we all tried even classically proportioned examples of burgundy and felt ravished by their purity and authority? The '98s were like that out of the barrel.

Fredric, those descriptions sound an awful lot like warm climate Cabernet Sauvignon attributes.

I know Loring's philosophy and he makes good on his promises, but plums, ravishing density, and licorice from Pinot Noir? How about elegance instead?
